School Initiatives
At St Michael's Junior Boys School many initiatives are run throughout the year that are based on a certain curricular area or a national event. We feel that these events and initiatives act as a means of connecting our school community to many other across the country.
Creative Schools
Creative Schools is a flagship initiative of the Creative Ireland Programme to enable the creative potential of every child.  Our Creative Associate is Joanna Parkes. She has worked closely with our Creative Co-ordinator to identify areas of the arts that interest our children. We have identified construction and animation to be an area of interest in our school. Aistear

Picture
Aistear is the early childhood curriculum framework for all children from birth to six years.
The word Aistear is the Irish word for journey and was chosen because early childhood marks
the beginning of children’s lifelong learning journeys. Aistear is the key learning and teaching
tool used to implement the primary school curriculum in infant classes in
St Michael's Junior Boy's School! Click on the Aistear logo to see how it is implemented in our school!

Beebots
We are delighted to have six Beebots in our school with a variety of Beebot mats to explore various themes! Beebots are a fantastic resource to teach directional language, awareness of space, coding, programming and can be used across a variety of curricular areas. Click on the Beebot to gain an insight to how they are used in our school!

Active Schools

We are delighted to have recently received the Active Schools Flag for our school. The aim of the Active Schools Flag is to encourage schools to be more active, more often. It links in with all of the work we are doing throughout the year on Healthy Living - being active, getting exercise, taking care of our minds and bodies.  Click on the Active Schools logo to see our Active Schools journey!

Science Week

Picture
Science Week Ireland is an annual week-long event in Ireland each November, celebrating science in our everyday lives. Science Week is an initiative of Science Foundation Ireland (SFI). It is the largest science festival in the country, engaging tens of thousands of members of the general public in workshops, science shows, talks, laboratory demonstrations, science walks and other science-related events.
Each year all of our boys and their teachers carry out a number of fun and exciting experiments!

Maths Week

Picture
Maths Week Ireland is a co-operative movement with local partners all over Ireland together with schools and teachers changing attitudes towards maths. It is coordinated
by Calmast at Waterford IT. This year the focus in our school was to get our boys to start using their "maths eyes" throughout the school day! We focused on areas such as shape and space, measures and number! It was great to see everyone enjoying the activities!

Pieta House Amber Flag

The Pieta Amber Flag Initiative recognises the individual efforts of primary and secondary schools, youth reach, third level institutions, community groups, clubs and companies to create healthy, inclusive environments that support mental well-being.
Having worked tirelessly in our Amber Flag campaign we were thrilled to be awarded our flag in May 2020!

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia is an international Irish language festival and one of the biggest celebrations of our native language and culture that takes place each year in Ireland and in many other countries. We celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge every year in our school where we promote and use our native language.
