GAA Blitz's
We have taken part in a number of school blitz's in recent years in both hurling & football. These have been fantastic experiences for all children involved. It is fantastic to build on such strong community links with our local GAA club, Arravale Rovers and our neighbouring secondary school, St Ailbe's. Active Advent Calendar 2022
For the month of December we will be keeping active through the festive season by using our Active Advent Calendar! Each day our Active Leader for the month in First Class will open the door of our Active Calendar each day and will inform the rest of the classes what the activity is for the day. The activities include running laps of our Active Walkway or exercises throughout the day.
Active Break Every Day Challenge!
All of our classes participated in the 'Active Break Every Day Challenge' organised by the Active School Flag team. An active break can either be 4 laps of our Active School Walkway or on rainy days 5 minutes of GoNoodle. Active Breaks have become a key part of our school day and we have seen the huge benefits such as prolonged levels of concentration after the active break.
St Michael's Fittest Classroom!
In the lead up to Active Schools Week 2021, each class was challenged to run as many laps of our Active Walkway as they can in a period of four weeks. Each class performed excellently and really enjoyed the challenge. Mrs Cleary's First Class were crowned St Michael's Fittest Classroom and were presented with their trophy by Tipperary Senior Footballer Brian Fox. Well done First Class!
As part of our Active Flag initiative we, as a school community have organised a number of events and activities to promote physical activity. At St Michael's Junior Boys School we pride ourselves on the inclusive nature of our events which are differentiated to cater for children of all ages and abilities.
Active Slogan & Active Poster Competition!
This year we challenged our boys to create an Active Slogan & Active Poster that would promote physical activity in our school community. Our Junior & Senior Infants were tasked with the Active Posters while our First Class boys were asked to create our Active slogan! The eventual winners were Franek in Senior Infants and Fergal in First Class! Well done to everyone for taking part!

Active Homework
As we enter this period of remote learning we, as an Active Flag Committee got together (virtually) to plan how we will continue our Active Flag journey. We decided upon the introduction of Active Homework! Everyday we will post a seesaw activity with the Active Homework for that night! It is great to see our boys being so active at home! 😁

Active Break Every Day Challenge!
Indoor and outdoor movement breaks are a great way to restore concentration and focus, and should form part of the school day for everyone. We, at St Michael's Junior Boys School commit to the Active Break Every Day Challenge as part of our Active Flag application.
We use both indoor and outdoor Active Breaks. Our indoor breaks consist of 2-3 minutes of the children being up out of their seats doing a combination of exercises. Our outdoor breaks consists of 3-4 laps of our schoolyard! The boys are really enjoying the Active Breaks and all of the staff at St Michael's can see a major improvement in concentration levels after our Active Breaks!
